Twice now the Walder’s spent a few days at Dayton Children’s Hospital – first with Braylee in November and then with Christopher. Their mom, Melissa, expressed her gratitude for the Ronald McDonald Family Room in a big way.
“Luckily my children were only admitted a few days but some children are there for months and years,” mom Melissa states.
“You would think, with three children, I would have some kind of emergency overnight bag packed, but I didn’t. Thankfully there is a room on the second floor of Dayton Children’s just for family members of the admitted patient where they can shower, wash clothes, make something to eat and relax. There I was able to get shampoo, conditioner, soap, tooth brush and tooth paste, deodorant, a hot shower and wash my clothes.”
That’s not all. Melissa graciously donated her birthday to RMHC Dayton to help our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms stock up on the hygiene items her family relied on.
“Their parents/caretakers usually don’t leave their side. These families sometimes completely depend on this room for all of their hygiene needs. Everything they have there is solely from donations. My birthday is coming up and I would like to raise some money and collect items to donate and give back,” writes Melissa in her online fundraiser.
Hundreds of dollars worth of hygiene items and $600 later, Melissa’s birthday made a huge impact! We are happy to have been there in her family’s time of need, and truly appreciate how they have paid it forward to other families. We are always in need of donated items to support families like Melissa’s. Check out our Wish List!
